Getting to know my area

Second day into my trip, had breakfast with my landlady! Such a pleasant lady. She made me bread! Not those Gardenia kind of bread, but those with almond and other nuts on the top. So it was bread with cheese and tomato, and my Milo for breakfast! We sat in her small but really cosy kitchen and started chatting. Surprisingly i could understand pretty well what she was saying!! According to her, the weather was the best yesterday when i arrived, the first sign of Fruhlings (Spring), so when i told her its raining outside, she simply said the weather is Schlecht (Bad)und Normal. Undeterred by it, i donned my jacket and my trusty deuter bag with my camera and off i went out of the house. My GOD. It was freaking cold outside..Immediately after putting on my shoes, i reached for my gloves. By the time it was on, i was shaking all over. If you are wondering where i am at this point, i am between the first door(my apartment) and the second(for the building), meaning i am still inside the building. (first picture is my building) Still without a map, i decided to wander around with caution, noting down all the streets i passed, so i could backtrack if i get lost. Turn out that was the last of my worries.(always had a good sense of direction). So i took out my Camera and started taking photos. As it was drizzling, and electronics like camera do not work well in the rain, so for every shot i took, i have to take it out from the bag, and put it back in after use. Super troublesome. The cold was still bearable, although my nose felt a little numb at this point. Without a map, i started wandering to the east. Came across this really big church, St Maximilian. Very big with 2 clock towers. Nothing special about it, so i moved on. Went to the river after that, which is next to the church. On the way there, i could feel my head freezing up, so took out my beanie and saved my head. With my hands in my pocket, i headed across the river. One thing about the cars in Munich, its full of BMWs. Imagine the toyotas and Hondas in Singapore, now turn them all into Audis and BMWs. Yeah, that kinda describes the cars on the roads in Munich. Nothing special along the streets as all the shops are closed on Sundays. Supermarkets, clinics, some restaurants. Really interesting. While crossing the river, i noticed this really tall clock tower in the distance, so i thought i might as well check it out. It was another big church, a much Bigger church. Mariahhif Church. It was sooo Big that my Wide angle lens could not take the entire church in spite of the fact that i was about 70 meters away. Decided to head back home after the church, but i took another route (don't worry i knew where i was going). Nice architecture, but nth special worth photographing. Came across this shop, GAY SHOP! hahah, Liberal Germany! Just a block from my Wohnung (home), i noticed this guy looking at me, kinda following me as well, so i delibrately slowed down to let him overtake me and he did. So i thought i was probably overly sensitive. Stupidly i took the same route as him. As i was busy checking out the european street, he walked towards me with a "friendly" smile and asked in german" Freund sein??" Initially i couldn't quite understand him, so i gave him a huh look. he didn't look like he was asking for directions, and i don't think any German with the right mind will ask an Asian boy for directions in Munich. Then he continued in English "Friend? Boyfriend?" IMMEDIATELY, i said NO NEIN NO... can't decide which language to use...but i don't think anyone could say it any faster. And i continued walking, only this time faster luckily he just left me alone and walked off, looking for his next prey i suppose.WOOT!

  1. omg vinc... u better be careful of overly friendly guys over there! Germany is really liberal in terms of its gay rights and laws. (i just finished this chapter on equality and we did a case study on gay rights in Singapore & other countries).

so do be careful especially when u are alone! ok i shall get back to my books :)
