Church Trip
Once again, its sunday. A day to be spent at home as most of the shops are closed. Nothing planned today other than
a visit to my friend's church. Its an international church situated in Goetheplatz, a train station away from my place. So no harm checking it out. Had my usual breakfast and lunch before falling asleep in the noon. The weather here makes me sleepy, a short eye rest usually becomes an hour nap. Its so much easier to sleep here. Woke up at 3, prepared myself for the evening program. Before that i had to check out the Laundrette near my place. Had to wait till today because i was too paiseh to be standing outside the shop flipping my yellow dictionary, checking out what it cost to wash my clothes, well there are quite a few words on the windows, like for drying for ironing for washing etc... So since it is closed today, no one inside will see me do that. Why ca
n't i memorise the words and check later? Somehow my goldfish brain doesn't allow that. Perhaps its weather..My tropical brain does not function too well in a temperate country yet. My plan was to go straight to the church from the laundrette, since it was between my house and the church. After navigating for 20 minutes through the narrow and complicated streets of Munich, i declared myself lost again. Sigh. I think i would have a better sense of direction in a forest. Running out of time, i had to ask a passerby which direction i should head to find Goetheplatz. He understood my german, but replied in English! Perhaps i used the English sentence structure. Oh well either way it worked for me. So picking up my pace, i headed straight in the direction he gave. After crossing 3 streets, the area became familiar again. Its the same place where i got my Groceries from. Reached the church on the spot at 4pm, right on time! Fou
nd a spot in the corner of the church and settled down. I shall not bore you with what went on during the church ( no offense to all christians) but i think i will do a terrible job repeating the sermon. So something more interesting. Halfway through the singing part came this African lady in a red seater and a read head scarf, carrying this infant who is probably a year old? She sat down next to me in my little corner. For the first 10 minutes the baby was exceptionally quiet, so much so that i wondered if it was really the power of church that even babies hold back from disturbing the serenity. 10 mins later, he began to whine a little, and could see him sucking his little thumb. Well, he was still pretty quiet other than the occasional whine. Halfway though the sermon, came this sickening "chuk chuk chuk" sucking sound from the baby, glacing to my right, i realised that the mother was seated at an angle, so her back was facing me. Then came the chuk chuk chuk noise again. It suddenly striked me what the mother was doing!! right next to me!!! Almost gasped OMG when i realised, but remembered i was in church and i shouldn;t use God's name in vain (again no offense). No wonder the Priest kept looking in this direction!!! I might have sounded like an idiot, but please pardon my ignorance for nothing like this happened in our little conservative country in my 20 years.
After the service, i came to know this other malaysian from Kan ern's group. Shu ern, she is currently studying at Aachen University, doing her internship in Munich in an engineering company. After a short chat, we left the church, with me searching for my own dinner. Came across this chinese restaurant 2 days ago, on the window stood a sign " Eat all you can buffet for pp 3.50 eur, 1 Teller) Teller as in plate. Its considered cheap and i have run out of food back home. Remembered that the shop is opened all week round, so i decided to give it a try. Took a train, took a bus, then took another bus to get to the place. Sounds pretty complicated? haha. Anyway when i walked into the restaurant, there was only 1 other man eating. Seated at the far end of the restaurant was the boss. He saw me and tried to sell me the 6 eur meal. I tried in chinese, english and then lastly german to tell him i do not want the 6 eur meal, i just want the 3.50 eat all you can meal. Hes canton btw, so he doesn;t speak chinese (what an idiot) and i couldn't understand his Canton. only after telling him that i just want the 3.50 eur meal in german, he gave up trying to persuade me into the 6 eur meal and left the restaurant. Food was pretty good. Fried rice, po piah, duck, mushroom, ketchup sauce fish, fried Banana and chicken! So took one plate full and got started. After the first round, i went for a second. Thats when the Lady boss walked into the restaurant. Happily helping myself to the second round using the same plate, i went back to my table. After i sat down, i realised that i may have mis read the promotion. Eat all you can buffet for 1 person, a plate. Actually its not my fault, the promotion is dubious. I realised that it could be a "put all you can on one plate for 3.50 eur buffet". So a second round would mean an additional 3.50 eur. My value meal is no longer value for money. Finishing my meal, i returned the plate to the lady who asked me if i used 1 plate, i just nodded for i really did use only 1 plate! hahah. Paid 3.50 and left the premise quickly.. Perhaps i didn't mis read?? What do you think? =x
