My first live demonstration! So what are they demonstrating against? The 500 eurs that they pay per semester. Well, works for me as well! hahah. Well i didn't dare take part in the demonstration as they were literally surrounded by the Polizei. Plus the idea of demonstrating hasn't really gotten into the "legal actions" department of my head yet. Thank you Singapore =) However the weird thing was the Polizei merely surrounded them. Unlike the usual thugging and dragging with bulletproof shields and withdrawn baton, like in TV. In fact i spotted a few officers chatting with the demonstraters. I suppose their job was not to end the demonstration, but to ensure that the demonstration does not turn violent. So what did the students do? They marched down Sonnenstraße with banners and signboards in hand(one of the main artery in the heart of munich's network of roads) before sitting down in the middle of the busiest juntion. Literally clogging the traffic. Oh yes, the police were they to guide traffic as well. So i was there, with my camera, happily clicking away, while at the same time keeping a safe distance, in case i get mistaken as part of them. After half an hour of sitting in the middle of the junction, the police finally made some announcement and chased them away. So they stood up and headed to the next junction. I, being still curious tagged along. After a few more shots, i headed to Marianplatz, where the main demonstration was. There in the middle of the platz was a rented truck with speakers and a few students in Orange on it. They ranted something in german and the crowds before them cheered. I too in the middle of the crowd cheered, that was my only participation in the demonstration against school fees. So much for my effort huh. hahah. Oh well, to be frank, i don't think the demonstration is going to make a difference to the system. Its not a lot to begin with!
